The 2012 recipient of the Allyson
Rioux Memorial Award is Allyson Souza from Westhill High School. At WHS,
Allyson has been a three sport athlete, excelling in Soccer, Basketball and
Softball. Her numerous athletic accolades include both 1st and 2nd
Team FCIAC All-Conference as well as 1st Team CIAC All-State awards
in Softball and 2nd Team FCIAC All-Conference in Soccer. She is
Captain of all three teams and most certainly leads by example.
David Flower, WHS Girls Varsity Soccer Coach called Allie the
best all-round athlete he has ever coached with an exceptional leadership
ability. He called Allie one of the best multi-sport athletes to come out of
Westhill.
Mike King, AD and WHS Girls Varsity Basketball Coach wrote
in his recommendation, “Allie exemplifies the qualities the Allyson Rioux
Memorial Award represents; Sportsmanship, Leadership, Excellent Character and
Athletic Prowess.”
Tom Pia, WHS Varsity Softball Coach said Allie is the
ultimate team player as well as an extremely coachable athlete. However, he said Allie’s strongest gift is
the mental part of her game. She has the ability to see what is going to happen
before the play begins.
Allyson Souza is also an exceptional student who will take
her academic and athletic accomplishments to Yale University in the fall where
she will continue to play softball.
Congratulations Allyson!
There is still room to attend our Celebration Dinner and see Allie receive her award. The dinner is Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 7pm at the Italian Center of Stamford. You can use the PAYPAL link on the left hand side to purchase tickets.
