2014 Award Winners Announce - Claire Howlett and Stephanie Roones


 
                                                    Claire Howlett – Westhill High School, 2014

Claire spends plenty of her time in running shoes! She is a three sport runner, participating in Cross Country in the fall; Indoor track in the winter; and Outdoor track in the spring. While at Westhill, she was Captain of all three teams. During the Cross Country season she set school records in the 5000m and the 4000m. She was 1st Team All-FCIAC, All-State and All-New England.

During the Indoor Track season Claire was the FCIAC champion in both the 1600m and 3200m events. She won the LL Championship in the 1600m, and was runner-up in the 3200m. She placed 3rd at the National Championship and was all named All-American. She set school records in the 1000m, 1600m, 3000m, 3200m and 5000m races.

During the Outdoor Track season Claire set a FCIAC championship record in the 1600m with a time of 4:48.19. She was also the FCIAC 3200m champion. During the Outdoor Nationals on June 15th, she placed 3rd in the 5K with a time of 16:46.74.

Claire will be continuing her running career at the collegiate level when she leaves this fall for Stanford University. Congratulations Claire and much continued success to you at the next level.
 
 
 

 
                                               Stephanie Roones – Westhill High School, 2014
Stephanie is a three sport scholar athlete at Westhill High School, excelling at the varsity level in Volleyball, Basketball and Track & Field.  Every sport season Stephanie led a different team, appointed Captain for all three sports.
During the fall season, Stephanie earned All-FCIAC and All-State honors in Volleyball. She was also named MVP.
During the winter season, she earned All-FCIAC honors in basketball and again was named Co-MVP of her team.
During the spring season, Stephanie placed first in the Javelin at the FCIAC championship, with a 128’ 08” throw. She also set a Westhill record in the Javelin. Stephanie also participated in the Discus event.
In addition to participating in these three sports, Stephanie has all played soccer and lacrosse.  She truly epitomizes the multi-sport athlete.
We wish Stephanie continued success as she begins her collegiate experience at Monmouth University in the fall.
